Jack Lawrence is a nationally respected photographer with a wealth of experience shooting Australian music industry events. He’s currently based in Perth, Western Australia.
Jack began his career on the W.A. live music/club-night circuit as a photographer – work that initially arose from Jack’s keen interest in capturing on film the party antics of friends at teenage house parties. He’s since been called on in an official capacity for WA events giants Metric, shooting many of their club-nights, with this work eventually expanding out into the festival circuit, where Jack has shot a huge array of events – ranging from independent to commercial. Clients include Splendour In The Grass, Big Day Out, Future Music, Field Day, Falls Festivals, Beyond The Valley, Listen Out, Groovin The Moo and Wonderland.
On the job at live music events, Jack takes a no-complaints approach to instruction, and as well as this co-operative nature, is known for his warm, friendly demeanor backstage. This, coupled with his consistently high-quality professional output, has made him a trusted, go-to photographer for leading Australian and international music artists, foremost amongst them Aussie electronic act RUFUS, for whom Jack has been the primary tour and gig photographer for the past three years. Earlier this year Jack headed to the USA as the official entourage photographer for RUFUS's double Coachella appearance and US Tour shows followed by a huge two month Australia wide tour.
Jack additionally enjoys a tight working relationship with Flight Facilities, Peking Duk, Alison Wonderland, What So Not, RL Grimes, Flosstradamus - all of whom regularly use Jack’s images of their performances in their official press - and Jack has additionally shot endorsed live photos for A$AP Ferg, Snoop Dog, Drake, The Kooks, Porter Robinson and Chet Faker.
Jack’s strength lies in his ability to nail candid, behind-the-scenes imagery backstage at live music events – the ‘human moments’ pre- and post- show that define the night’s overall vibe. Jack’s images not only bring fans closer to the artists they love (and thus improve the artists’ relationship with their fans), but for the artists themselves – as well as filling in those hazy ‘big night on tour’ memory gaps that arise once the afterparty hangovers subside – Jack ensures that those incredible career highlights are well-documented for the future.
